Roger Wayne Ellis, 54, of Carlisle, was shot by police serving a warrant for his arrest at 1 Brittney Drive around 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 16, according to an updated release by police.
Ellis was wanted for fleeing and eluding police, numerous traffic offenses and driving with a Driving Under the Influence-suspended license after he was spotted driving and giving police chase in Camp Hill on Jan. 14, according to a previous release by Camp Hill police.
When police arrived to serve the warrant, Ellis refused to follow commands, instead he pulled out a handgun and shot police at close range— injuring an officer, according to the release by state police.
The North Middleton Township officer was wearing a bulletproof vest, so he was treated at the scene, then taken to a local hospital and has since been released, state police say.
Officers formed a perimeter around the home and asked Ellis to put down the gun but he refused so police opened fire— a North Middleton Township officer shot him, State Trooper Megan Ammerman says in the release.
Ellis was taken into custody and treated at the scene— but he succumbed to his injuries and died before he could be transported to a hospital or prison, according to the release.
Pennsylvania state police continue to investigate the incident.
Ellis' family posted about their loss on social media on Thursday morning.
Ellis enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his dog, based on his social media.
Funeral and memorial service details have not been released.
